San Diego is simply one of the best places in the US to hold events due to its beautiful weather, abundance of attractions and perfect spaces to host any event you may want, and such is the case with the Peace and Justice building at the Universtity of San Diego hosting the Geek Girl Tech Con this last Saturday June 29th. While mainly hubed in the East coast for the last 6 years, GGTC decided it was time to come to the West coast armed with a great crew of sponsors, panelists, fun and plenty of material to pass on to its guests. Leslie Fishlock, creator of Geek Girl Tech Con, realized that we all posess super abilities in the ability to teach, learn and pass on the legacy of knowledge. Moving toward educating the public in the digital age with new tools, especially for the self-starter entrepreneur, GGTC included panels such as Crowdfunding, Sharkette Tanks, Social Media Panels and authorities in all of these fields and plenty of workshops in many aspects business and computer related. As many startups or projects require financing, Crowdfunding has evolved to an entire project in itself, and panelist experts in the subject including Catt Fields White, Austin Green, Shelly Bowen, Dane Cardiel and Karl Kozak shared some of their insights on approaching the public to gather funds. One of the panel favorites was Karl Kozak, whom was able to surpass his crowdfunding goal to reach $315,000 for his Trakline Belts and mentioned having a good product and having a master plan as some of the most important things to take into consideration. Other imporant panel recommendations included daily posting /involvement, media reach, keeping your campaign realistic and a good international shipping system as steps toward success. The Social Media panel included experts Lynette Young, Valerie Sparks, Bridget Ayers and Liz Philips who imparted guests with great techniques to start-up, link, tweet, get your product known and plenty of other tips and tricks in their know-how goodie bag of experience. The Sharkette tanks pitched a project or business in a short 10 minute session, was a showcase for everyone on how to sell your idea to an investor. While most conferences seem rather cold and impersonal, Geek Girl Tech Con successfully orchestrated an inviting and warm atmosphere. A woman’s touch that made the difference included opening a free lunch area to all of its guests and crew, as well as gift prizes at a raffle to conclude the event... truly refreshing and the personal connection which will surely keep this Conference growing wherever it may be. In the Tree of Life, Sean Penn is a grown man looking back at his life and what he remembers about his life that chases him. At an early age he discovers his fathers’ projections and learns about an “adulterized” part of the world he was foreign to as a young kid. As a sensitive child he quickly adopts those patterns that his father has and spends some of his young life exploring this dark acquisition and then most of his life getting back to that place of innocence his brothers were able to stay at despite having lived in the same home and having gone through many of the same experiences. The thing about life is that you never know where it will lead you, but as is portrayed in the movie, there is a road back to that special place where the tyrant king is dethroned and love reigns. The move could just as well have been named The Kingdom as the epic images of creation take us through Genesis and takes us through a fractalized voyage of his life that we may peer into his thoughts and gain further insight into how he got to this point in his life. I won’t spoil it by telling you the end, but I will tell you that this movie does not follow a traditional plot narrative and is over two hours long. Be ready for something out of the ordinary and allow yourself to peer into someone else’s life that you may learn about your own and find the roots of the causes that shape our perfectly imperfect world and what it is we have to work on to get back to that state we lost somewhere along this journey.
Aptly named The Tree of Life, its Kabbalistic methods, including the stellar visuals talk about how to find this method of getting back to that divine state. There are many traditions all throughout the world that work with The Tree of Life and help us gain insight on the deeper mysteries and meanings of our own understanding. We simply have to be willing to put in the time and reflection to gain a clearer message as to how this can be achieved. At the end, love must conquer all. May we all find our perfect state of Divinity Abelardo |
